The Admissions Process

To request an Admissions information packet and DVD about The Elisabeth Morrow School, please complete the inquiry form here.

Learn about The Elisabeth Morrow School
Receive a packet of information and attend a campus tour or open house. We encourage prospective parents to tour the campus and see our classrooms in action. Tours and open houses are held throughout the admission season. We are proud of our program and enjoy sharing the EMS experience with interested families. Visiting the campus is a valuable method of learning about life at The Elisabeth Morrow School. Once a family has made the decision to apply, then the process is as follows:

Application for Admission
The most spaces for new students occur primarily in the three-year-old program, first and fifth grades. However, applications are accepted for all grades through grade seven and are reviewed based on space availability. Mail the completed application form along with a $60.00 non-refundable application fee. The Admission Office staff will acknowledge receipt of your application with a letter.

Parent Questionnaires
Please share information about the candidate by completing the parent questionnaire. In assessing candidates, especially young children, detailed and concrete information will help the Admission Committee make informed decisions.

Teacher Recommendations and
Transcript Requests

The Admission Committee request that the most current transcripts and teacher recommendations be forwarded from the candidate’s current school to The Elisabeth Morrow School after November 1.

Parent and Student Interviews
Please contact the Admission Office to arrange a visit. The screening process involves a playgroup for candidates to our three-year-old program through grade one. A morning visit to the school is required for candidates to grades two through seven. Additionally, parents are asked to share information about the candidate in a parent interview. The parent interview can sometimes be scheduled during the time of the child visit, so please inquire with the Admission staff.

ERB and ISEE Testing
All candidates for pre-kindergarten through grade four will be assessed by the Educational Records Bureau either at The Elisabeth Morrow School or at the ERB office in New York City. All candidates for grades five through seven will be required to take the ISEE. Please contact ERB directly to schedule an appointment for the ERB or ISEE at 212-672-9802. Please visit the following websites for more information: www.erbtest.org or www.iseetest.org

Admission Decisions
The Admission Committee’s decisions are determined by a thorough review and discussion of each of the required components of the candidate’s file. This includes the contents of the parent questionnaires, school reports and testing as well as the observation notes from the playgroup or student visit and the parent interview. The decisions are mailed in early March. Candidate’s families are responsible for facilitating the completion of the admission file. Incomplete files will not be reviewed by the committee. Therefore, a phone call to check on the status of the candidate’s file is very important.

Financial Aid
The Elisabeth Morrow School is committed to providing our families with flexible payment options and financial aid awards to ensure that qualified students are able to receive an EMS education. Admission to the school and financial aid decisions are made independently from one another and awards are based solely on the family’s financial resources. The family’s income, savings, investments, number of dependents, age of parents and number of children attending tuition-charging schools and colleges are some of the factors used to determine financial aid. The Elisabeth Morrow School awarded over $500,000 in aid for the 2006-2007 academic year. We continue to work hard to increase our budget, so that even more candidates can benefit from the EMS experience in the future.

The Financial Aid Committee strongly suggests that all required components of the financial aid package be received in the office no later than March 2, 2007.

A complete Financial Aid Packet includes:

  • Questionnaire
  • The SSS Report
  • Copy of 2006 Income Tax Return with all schedules
