FAQ

What kind of student does well at The Elisabeth Morrow School?
We look for students who have a curiosity about life and learning, who can work both independently and cooperatively, and who are respectful and considerate of others.

What is the class size?
Nursery through first grade class sizes range from 16 to 18 with two full-time teachers, plus specialists in music, art, science, physical education, computer and foreign language. Second through eighth grade classes range from 15 to 18 with one teacher and increased instruction by the above specialists. The overall ratio of students to teachers is 7:1.

Is there extra help for students who may need it?
Resource teachers at each grade level both extend the curriculum for those who need further challenge and support those whose skills need added instruction.

Does the school provide transportation?
Transportation is provided or funded by many towns in Bergen and Rockland Counties. The school publishes a list of all bus companies that transport our students and helps parents to arrange carpools.

What about lunch?
In Nursery through Grade 5, students eat lunch brought from home in the calm of their individual classrooms. Middle School students may elect to buy lunch or bring their own.

How do you handle security?
Teachers and administrators greet students at all entrances each day, and all school doors are locked after 9:00 am by a controlled access security system. There is a receptionist at the front door of each building, and security personnel to escort children as needed.

Do the students wear uniforms?
We believe that a dress code that emphasizes neat and conservative attire helps to focus students on their schoolwork and promotes considerate behavior. The dress code varies by grade level.

How much homework is assigned?
Students in nursery and kindergarten are not assigned homework. Beginning in first grade, students are expected to complete homework assignments that are age-appropriate and that will help them to review and expand upon class work. The amount increases gradually from 20 minutes up to two hours in Middle School.
