Grades One through Three

In the early elementary years, literature continues to be the cornerstone of the curriculum, and reading, writing, and social studies projects are often integrated around specific genre or author study. Students write across the curriculum – in math and science as well as in the language arts, and the mathematics program stresses concepts and problem-solving along with computation skills.

Science classes focus on investigative techniques, the interrelatedness of scientific disciplines, and the skills of observation, hypothesis formation, and data collection through projects that are related to the social studies curriculum.

In first grade, all students begin the study of Spanish, while art and music classes continue to emphasize curriculum-related projects along with the joy and appreciation of the fine arts.
