Three-Year-Old Class and PreKindergarten
Phase-In
The first few days of school are shorter days to provide
children with a smooth transition from home to school. Childcare is provided for families who
cannot find alternative care for their children on these days. However, we do feel the start to the
school year sets the tone for the year and we want to provide each child with
an environment that fosters a sense of security and success.
Trip to Englewood
Boat Basin
Every year the three-year-olds take a field trip to the
Englewood Boat Basin. All children
are required to have a grown-up meet them at the basin for a pancake picnic and
walk along the waterway. The trip
occurs during the month of May. The
option of leaving school upon return is given to parents for the scheduled trip
day but childcare will be available for those children who need care after the
returning time.
Mary Hawkins Fair
The three-year–old classes along with the PreKindergarten
classes create and participate in a fair held the Friday before the Memorial
Day holiday. Parents, siblings and
families are all invited to the fair which begins at 10:00 AM. There are no regular school hours on
this day for our 3’s and Prek children.
Every child is expected to have at least one grown-up present. The date is always the Friday that
proceeds the Memorial Day weekend.
No childcare is available after the fair.
Full day care is offered on certain days that School is
closed or classes are not in session, including faculty study days, parent
conference days, and some vacation days.
Kindergarten
Phase-In
The phase-in schedule for Kindergarten is limited to the
first week. The length of the day
is shortened to a half day for the first three days moving to a full day by the
end of the week. Parents will be
given a schedule in their June mailings.
Childcare is available during the phase-in schedule.
The Kindergarten Zoo
Trip
Each May the Kindergarten classes attend a field trip to the
Turtle Back Zoo. The event occurs
during the spring. A parent
or a special caregiver, grandparent or family friend is asked to accompany each
child. The children love sharing
this special experience with their guest but the school will provide an
alternate supervision when a family is unable to meet the request. Children may leave with their grown-up
upon the return of the bus to school.
Childcare is provided for any child who needs to remain in school after
the trip.
Kindergarten Circus
The Kindergarten prepares and performs a circus each
year. The event occurs at the end
of the school year. Families are all invited for this special event. A class party is scheduled to celebrate
directly after the circus and dismissed for a shortened day. Childcare will be offered for any
children needing care after dismissal.
Other Field Trips
Throughout the school year the PreKindergarten and
Kindergarten attend field trips that support their learning and go beyond our
campus. Parents will have opportunities to volunteer as chaperones for
these special events but attendance is not mandatory.
