There are many great features of a school that spans the entire arc of childhood, but one of the best things about the eighth grade year is that your child and you will enter the secondary school process. This is a great opportunity for them to reflect on their individual learning style in order to optimize their learning experience during the crucial secondary school years. While you alone may have made the choice of where they would attend elementary and middle school, together your family will embark on a journey that will lead your child to the 'best fit' secondary school, and we are here to guide you every step of the way.
Our personalized process officially begins in the spring of seventh grade, although families may reach out to us at any time. There are several orientations for families, as well as a Secondary School Fair, and individual family meetings which begin over the summer before your child's eighth grade year.
During their eighth grade year, standardized entrance exam prep is available after school, and both independent school entrance exams - the SSAT and the ISEE - are offered at EMS. Our eighth grade students also participate in our Leadership Symposium class, our signature program which helps students discover their strengths and develop the confidence, competence and connectedness needed to become leaders in all aspects of their lives.
Our students are also assigned their own interview mentor, an administrator with whom they do not have regular contact, who will ensure that they are well prepared for the adult interactions that they will have as part of this process.
